Hi all...
Unfortunately the file path gives me a 404 error (is it still there, Lena?),
Well, anyway, the gentlemen above have already added everything that I could have add anyway. 1) using components (as extensively as you can) 2) using layers to hide the geometry you are currently NOT working with 3) modeling with textures turned off (what's more; texturing only in some very late phase of the work) - modeling in monochrome mode also gives you the chance to control front%back faces better 4) NEVER model with shadows on (unless you are testing them) only turn them on when exporting images.
I have a model with 6 gothic churches, monasteries, a cathedral, (all modeled with ribbed gothic vaulting and tracery windows etc from inside) all the city walls and a bunch of "dummy" buildings + entourage and terrain with over 2 million edges and 300,000 faces but it's still smaller than 7 Mb. I can't imagine working with that mnster without these basic rules.
Gai...
p.s. I modeled it on a computer with a 2.7 GHz single core CPU, 512 Mb RAM (!) and a 256 Mb ATI Radeon video card (!) Time to upgrade I presume...

I also was able to open your file. It would be worthwhile to do a search for file management in the main SU Pro group. People do work with larger files. But there are several guidelines/techniques for managing such beasts.
As Taff noted, working without shadow and texture speeds things up nicely. By all means texture things. But hold off adding texture until the end or work with the Shaded face setting.
Make more Scenes with unnecessary layers turned off just for ease of modeling.
There's a lot of extruded arc and circle geometry made with the default number of segments - elements on the bed and patio shade structures. Knock it off. A 3-segment roundover sheet edge would suffice as would a 5-segment headboard bed post detail.
That gray, transparent shade structure is very attractive. But you should make it from components instead of groups.
Compare the hidden geometry in the cars with the yucca and the bed details. Learn something from the cars.
