Hello,
I tried to post the following to the Android developer group but I had no success.
I heard that it will be very problematic to program a screen reader for Android in Java because of security reasons. A screen reader would allow blind people to use Android devices.
At present many visually challenged persons are using screen reader software for S60 Nokia handsets and this makes their life much easier. "Speaking" mobile technology is a great chance for blind people like me to obtain access to satellite navigation, web based applications, information, communication, learning and local based services. this will open new opportunities for the job market and for participation in social networks and in society, especially for those from the poor countries.
Is there really no possibility to develop a screen reader solution for Android? Therefore API's are needed which could give info about content of other applications.
Another problem is that it seems to be there is no speech synthesizer for Java yet. Perhaps this could be solved if Google or another company will buy a speech solution from a company like Nuance.
I have written an open letter to Google and the Open Handset Alliance but I get no feedback till now. http://de.mini.wikia.com/wiki/Open_letter_initiative
