Only binaries and libraries, enough to get going. I will download the rest as I need. Thank you.

I can make a 4.6 release mini bsd available for a 486

That would be great. Please compress it so that it is even smaller for transportation. My connection is slow so this would really help.

its almost 16 mb large. But there are some very good web pages available on the web. See also in the archives of this list.

Search for "mini bsd" in google?

In this mailing list there was a mention about a web page. I use this info and have now a 486 running on a flash disk. The web page is at:

http://neon1.net/misc/minibsd.html

I cannot derive a small bsd from the standard distribution because I do not have the standard distribution. My situation is: my connection is slow and I do not want to download a very big file, or many small files that will be combine into a big file. In addition, I only have a 20 MB partition to try out BSD.
