If you only want to develop software for your own use, nobody cares. If you distribute it, it should be compatible with reality.

When someone distributes free software, you have very little standing demanding them what they should or shouldn't do.

But, what can you expect from someone, who doesn't know how to quote and PGP signs mailing list messages. :(
