It means the file is not mapped from the depot to the location the local file system says it's at by way of the current P4 client.

When I get this error I am usually in the wrong workspace on the disk (check $P4CLIENT)

Well, what does it mean. we can see the file on the client! Even if it wasn't there, we would expect p4 edit to get it...

also, does anybody have a list of perforce error messages and explanations?
