Has anyone working on easing the pain of header scanning large numbers of source files?

No, and I don't think it is really required. And something like the Boost Build System is the wrong way to go, in my oppion.

It seems a little unfair for you to toss that remark off without an explanation. I respect your experience in building large projects. What about Boost.Build do you think is inappropriate?
