Hello again,
well, I managed to get through the ./configure process by becoming root and:
cp /usr/src/crypto/openssl/tools/c_rehash /usr/bin/
and now my FreeBSD 4.3-STABLE box is waiting for me to go home and complete the
installation process. I don't exactly understand what the ramifications of this
are, or what chunk of courier needs c_rehash or what i'll see as broken in the
future (if anything). I am sure that it could be a problem with the
installation/upgrade process on my FreeBSD box, but I'll keep my eyes open.
But first, some supper...

Hello, I am trying to ./configure courier courier-0.34.0.20010516
on a FreeBSD 4.3-STABLE system and I am having trouble. I have also tried the
courier-0.34.0 tarball and the courier-0.32.0.20010326.tar (the 0.32 one gives
me a different error, see below).
I am ./configure'ing with these options: --prefix=/usr/local/courier \ --without-ipv6 \ --with-mailuser=courier \ --with-mailgroup=courier \ --with-ispell=/usr/local/bin/aspell \ --enable-webpass=no \ --enable-https=auto \ --enable-mimetypes=/usr/local/apache/conf/mime.types
and the 0.32* error message is: [snip] checking for openssl... (cached) /usr/bin/openssl checking for c_rehash... no checking for perl5... (cached) /usr/bin/perl5 configure: error: openssl found but c_rehash was not found. configure: error: ./configure failed for rootcerts
I can find a script called c_rehash in /usr/src... but not in my installed
filesystem. I'm not sure why.
So, after ensuring that it wasn't something that changed between the release of
0.34.0 and the one from yesterday, I went back to the last 0.32 tarball I could
find. I should note that I have successfully ./configure'd and installed
courier on this box back in the 0.32.0 days, and that I have upgraded the OS to
-STABLE a couple of times since then, but there have been no significant other
changes. At any rate, the ./configure script dies like this:
checking for gpg... /usr/bin/gpg checking for perl5... (cached) /usr/bin/perl5 checking for gpg charset... gpg: not found gpg: not found configure: error: Unable to determine gpg charset configure: error: ./configure failed for gpglib
I have never installed gpg on this machine.
I'm reading the INSTALL doc over and over and I don't really know what direction
to take from here, any suggestions?
