IMHO very much develops it's feature-richness towards InterBase keeping it's own simplicity. InterBase for instance knows subselects but why use a complicated subselect if a MySQL (LEFT) JOIN is so fast and easy to write?

We will add all the stuff but it will take time since it takes time to do it RIGHT!

Here there are very little competitive DBMS systems. But there are some, and more each day. PostgreSQL, MSDE, SapDB, OpenInterbase (or what ever it's called).
