Hi Jason,
Pallavi and I are working on a mashup fo the ASU Piper Center for
Creative Writing.
Initially, we thought we wanted to use the gm:checkbox tag, although,
we found that the gm:rating and the gd:rating tags seemed to
accomplish what we were looking to do in ways we hadn't even thought
were possible.

Can you be a bit more specific? Are you trying to enable an editable
gm:checkbox by default or are you trying to enable it programatically
using JavaScript? If you can provide a link to your mashup along with
a quick description of what you're after, I may be able to help you
