You're absolutely right. The optimism is based on the expectation that the documentation you're seeking will be available in the next few months. The problem is not that the core developers don't recognize that comprehensive documentation is vital but that they *don't have time* to do it right now. Everybody is maxed out on other Pylons responsibilities and their full-time jobs. Demanding it isn't going to make it happen, and it can run the risk of making one look like an ungrateful freeloader. Open source is a do-it-yourself affair; the more people who help, the quicker it gets done.
