Hello all,
So i have been monitoring my Exchange server because i have been noting
minor perfomance problems. Using the Exchange Performance monitoring
tool and ExMon, i was able to identify users taht were making an
unusually large amount of RPC calls (7 - 14 times that of a normal
user). Not only were these users exhibiting heavy RPC usage, it also
appeared to be constant. Minute to minute the same users would remain
at the top of the list sometimes account for 80% of all the RPC traffic
in any given minute.
So i did some investigating. After some detective work i found what
appeared to be the problem. They all had goole desktop installed. So i
removed google desktop from one of the users. The user immediately
dropped off my list. I installed google desktop on my workstation - and
guess what - i immediately jumped to the top of the list for RPC
connections.
This is a good way to make email admins ban the application from end
user workstations. Perhaps you may wish to investigate. I believe i did
solve the problem by runnign the user in Exchange Cached mode, but
regardless, many admins are quick to ban an application because that is
often the easiest way to remove the trouble caused by it.
Thanks,
