Hi,

I'm using Mac OS 10.2.6 on a G4 400. I downloaded and installed Mac OS X Package Installer Standard 4.0.13.

Did you get any messages in the installer log during the installation? If you click on the MySQL PKG to start the installer, choose "File->Show Log" to see what is happening. After a succesful installation, mysqld should be up and running.

When I start the daemon I get mysqld ended right away. I've searched through the manual and I can't find why this would happen. At this point all test commands, changing password and so on don't work. I was following the set-up instructions on Macservers.org http://www.macservers.org/feature-1.html

[Mark-Giless-Computer:/usr/local/mysql] markgiles% sudo ./bin/mysqld_safe & [1] 651 [Mark-Giless-Computer:/usr/local/mysql] markgiles% Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /usr/local/mysql/data 030718 00:28:10 mysqld ended

Please take a look at the error log in /usr/local/mysql/data/<hostname>.err - it will tell you what went wrong. Without this information it's not possible to tell why mysqld did not start up - I assume a permission problem.
