I suppose at some point Google will release all their gmail+docs +homepage+blahblahblah as one stand-alone server that businesses could install on their network and instantly use all those services locally. Would make sense.
You can already do this to a certain extent. Have you checked out Google Apps? All you need is a free domain, and basic standard edition is free which includes the following applications:
Gmail, Google Talk, Google Calendar, Docs & Spreadsheets, Page Creator and Start Page
The 'Start Page' is basically the personalized homepage running off of your domain.

Your gadget must be accessible by Google
I really wish this wasn't the case. It would be nice to be able to paste XML into an input box to define a gadget, so Google doesn't need to go fetch the XML file itself. This way I could deploy a local gadget without any risk of it being seen by others.
What I would _really_ like is a complete packaged implementation of the Google Homepage on a local server like an Intranet. That would be cool.
