Okay limit it to 1 table then.

The main focus on MySQL (as I understand it and has been reiterated today) is many, many fast selects, and very few simple updates.

It seems that the insert into single table very infrequently but with better adherence to schema rules, is right in line with the audience (even if that audience doesn't want to admit we all have bugs we don't currently know about...denial is bliss).

Or are you saying there is very little chance this will be improved ever for MyISAM or definitely not soon??

(BTW, the only reason I brought this discussion to the list, was because there was no place on the web site to ask about paying to add a feature before actually paying. I think it is not good business to ask someone to pay before they can ask pre-sales questions)

Thanks for the informative reply.

SUGGESTION: Since the rollback optimization problem does NOT apply to single inserts, then why butcher the schema, and instead just make the automatic defaults a "feature" of multiple row inserts??

In other words, why penalize the single row insert (the most common) just because of the optimization issue with multi-row inserts?

<JOKE>Hey I feel like we are actually helping each other now. What a wonderful concept</JOKE>

Sincere thanks.

You are welcome !

Automatic defaults can not be a feature of just multiple row inserts, as there are other commands ( i have mentioned one in my previous mails) that can not be stopped in the middle of operation on non-transactional tables.

Even single row inserts have to use this `feature`. User could be inserting into several tables, so a fail in one table could be circumvented with rollbacks only, as tables could be related. And again, MyISAM operations can not be rolled back, so we are back at the beginning.
