And another clarification: I am not the main man (although i like the sentiment :) behind GData - I am just very vocal .... GData is a team effort and there are lot of people who conributed more than I did to this.

Mark,

If I were you, I'd be psyched on the recognition your app's received. Think about it, your app was showcased in a presentation by Frank Mantek - the main person behind GData. That's impressive!

The mobile Google calendar [ http://www.asserttrue.com/articles/2006/11/07/flash-lite-1-1-google-calendar ] that I wrote hasn't gotten half the attention, and in my opinion, it's easier to use than your's and Google's. I say that because it's fast and familiar. The UI matches that of Google's desktop calendar widget (familiar UI), and it launches from the phone's deck (fast to get to). Plus, the data comes in as a binary bundle, so the data packet is super compact and loads very quickly. The app works so well that I use it everyday!

I mention my app because I finished it last September and posted an announcement to this list about it in response to a request to share cool applications [http://googledataapis.blogspot.com/2006/10/isnt-it-cool-when.html], but no one on this list expressed any interest. I'd have been stoked if my app got the attention that mobileGCAL got. Again, I compliment you. Good work!

I suspected that the lack of interest to my app had to do with the strong opposition to SWF technology at Google - not that any non-Google GData developers should have cared about what I built, but I was surprised that no one from Google commented. That suspicion was enforced when I asked Google for support [ http://groups.google.com/group/google-help-dataapi/browse_thread/thread/e1fe326519c01bf2/019d2d202833e60c?lnk=gst&q=alimills&rnum=2#019d2d202833e60c ] with building an ActionScript GData layer, and again was met with silence. I dunno, since then I went ahead and built the parts of an ActionScript GData library that I needed. It works great!

I'm rambling... I'll be attending Google Developer Day in Mountain View next week. I'll be at the GData and Geo talks (got a fun mapping idea brewing). I'd love to meet anyone interested in GData, Flash, Flex, ActionScript, mobile, calendars, and maps. If anyone on this list is interested in accessing GData from a SWF or mobile calendaring, I'd be excited to chat. Shoot me an email off list!

Nice job with mobileGCAL mark, and great work with GData Frank.

Have fun!

Frank,

Feel free to use it, I'm dead in the water anyway. My compliments on a World Class API. I'd have liked to have done more with it but, unfortunately, I must be moving in another direction. Sorry about the harsh words above but my application blows away that piece of crap the Calendar folks released the other day.

I was looking forward to the next step of dynamic language presentation but I don't believe it will be necessary now. You're a real gentleman and thank you for the opportunity you presented me. It's nice to think that at least some of the people at Google adhere to their motto.
