Hi,
two questions.
Is the MySQL service really up and running?
Have you issued a "GRANT" command?

Subject: Still getting Error 1045 - access denied for user: 'root@localhost'
(Using password: No) on Win98 machine
Hello
I have downloaded the pre-compiled version 3.23.52 for Windows 98SE
I get the error whenever I type
mysql -u root test
However I have sometimes been able to get into the mysql monitor when I type
mysql -u root mysql
More often than not I get the error.
I have read some suggestions at:
http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/Windows_running.html
"mysqlshow" displays a set of databases including mysql
"mysqlshow -u root mysql" gives the error
"mysql test" takes me into the mysql monitor
"mysqladmin version status proc" gives some info and then the error which
includes "process list failed"
Further down the page the suggestions are to try:
C:\mysql\bin\mysql mysql
I get the access denied error again.
I have reinstalled once with no difference.
What is the role of mysqladmin.exe - is there any information that can be
gathered using it which would solve this problem?
Any more suggestions gratefully accepted.
