I wrote my own patch for this problem and others.

This really needs to be addressed by the developers.

Hello,

I look in the list and i don't find if a solution was found for return different error than unknown user when mysql connexion is down ?

Currently when maildrop can't connect to mysql he return "user unknown. Command output: Invalid user specified". I would prefer message still in queue of postfix instead of send back to the sender (bounce).

Maybe a postfix param issue to maildrop ?
