Hi Jirka,

Very nice. I think the challenge will be to get tools vendors to add support for
it so that you can see the transcluded content in the editor.

I'd been bugging XMetaL to add support for xinclude for a long time. About the
time I learned that XMetaL 6 would have support for xincludes, I also learned
that you guys were considering a new transclusion mechanism.

To some degree, <ref> is really a variant of <xi:include> with extensions
related to id handling and a simplified means of referencing the target
resource, so perhaps editor support can be achieved by extending their xinclude
support.

Thanks, David

In skimming the TC meeting minutes, I recall also some mention of transclusion that also addresses some of these problems. Is the modular content work related to that or a separate project?

No, at least not at this point because DocBook transclusions are at very early stage of development. But if this would be reasonable we will try to unify both technologies as much as possible.

Do you know if the transclusion work would be an extension of xinclude or something different?

It will be different because XInclude has many usability and technical problems. See latest transclusion proposal:

But it is still work in progress which can be changed, thrown away, ... you have been warned.
