Perhaps I should clarify:
I am going to remain on Courier, but the question is whether or not I
continue to relay through my outside mail hub.
The other question is with just ports 25, 993 (imapssl), and 995 (pop3ssl)
allowed through the firewall to the mail server, is my inside network
exposed enough to cause concern?
We only have 100 users, so performance should be adequate...

Qmail is the most secure mailer as you know.
Since you like secure mailers, you might want to move to Postfix.
No slight against Sam, but personally I think that Postfix is
probably one
the next most secure mailers after Qmail.
Wieste the developer of it has written a number of Unix security related
applications, Postfix
is one of the many he wrote. Postfix like Exim, the Courier MTA,
and Qmail
supports the Maildir.
Postfix works with Maildrop, and various filtering programs.
Postfix also prides itself on never loosing mail.
I am using Postfix with Courier and we have 2020 users on our mailserver.
I am also using Postfix as our mailhub.

I'm considering using Courier's blocking abilities, delivery features,
etc. to do something like this instead:
Internet <-outside-> Firewall <-inside-> Courier
I, naturally, have security concerns and am requesting opinions
from those
willing to share...
