Ugh! Me too.

I changed the root *while I had files open*. Bad idea. The old files stayed open relative to the old root. Very gross. Note to self: close all files before moving root :)

Hmmm. Changing the Root: value should be fine, as long as you've moved the client workspace to the new location yourself. We do it routinely (people's home directories, wherein their workspaces typically live, move from time to time).

We actually have a "p4 resetroot" command, that says "Perforce, I'm in the root directory of my client workspace, which has moved. Please make a note of it" (i.e., it updates the Root: value automatically).
