Thank you Timothy for your help; I will take a look at the links you suggested but agree that the best solution would be to wrap the current C API using JNA.

I've started helping Albert Strasheim on his current work for a Java API to Matlab using JNA.

Thanks again for JNA this would be a pain in JNI. Richard
