Hi,

Probably You are missing the my.ini file (I have never tryed WinXP but a lot Win NT/2000).

Chapter 2.1.2.2 of the manual explain - so probably You have to de-install current version, and make sure that any (in case) "my.ini/my.cnf" is deleted from c./ and c:/winxp.

In c:/mysql/bin You find WinMySQLAdmin - which will do a proper installation on Windows and create "my.ini" - and then normally, everything is up running.

Best regards Peter

NB - this is a very repeated issue - so perhaps we should ask the MySQL-guys to mention WinMySQLAdmin as introduction to chapter 2.1.2.

Thanks for the reply.

The entire c:\mysql directory hierarchy is writeable. Same error message as before.

Be sure that mysql's data directory and subdirectories have perrmissions that allow user SYSTEM to read/write/create.

Heya.

I've just performed an install of MySQL 4.0.12 on a WinXP Pro box. The installation itself proceeded without any warnings or errors; I used the default installation directory (c:\mysql).

Following the manual, I did the following:

cd c:\mysql\bin mysqld-nt --install

(Output: Service successfully installed.)

NET START MySQL

(Output: The MySQL service is starting. The MySQL service could not be started.

A system error has occurred.

System error 1067 has occurred.

The process terminated unexpectedly.)

I've gone through the mailing list archives and tried to figure what the 1067 is a symptom of. According to the archives, the 1067 error usually happens when you've got a stray my.ini file kicking around -- but that's not a problem with me, because, as I said, this is a clean install on a new box.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
