Yes I understood they were being downloaded...where I got confused was thinking that eventum was sort of acting like a full mail server and would need to store the mail somewhere.

We are using windose exchange as our pop3 server (I don't know if exchange does imap) and would be using the subject header to track issues in eventum, if I understand it correctly. I am thinking, all "issue" related mail is sent to the exchange server and eventum downloads it every so often. Does eventum put the mail anywhere or does it process it depending on who is assigned to the issue and then send it on its way.

Every downloaded mail goes into Eventums database.

Without any automatic action, you will see the emails on the "Associate Issues" page. Here you can manually create a new issue from an email, or add the email to an existing issue.

When you look at the issue details you'll see the related emails listed.

Depending on settings, some emails will automatically get associated to issues based on headers or subject These will then be sent out again by Eventum to the "Notification List" of the issue.
