Ok, well, here's what I have:

etc/courier/locals: localhost wiglefamily.net

Now, hosteddomains is a folder on my system. I created a file in that folder called wiglefamily.net with a single line of: wiglefamily.net

I also exectued makehosteddomains afterward. I can only assume that I've made a mistake with the hosteddomains folder (I wish it had been just a file instead of the folder layout but whatever).

Can anyone point out my mistake? Thanks again for the help!

Definitely... Sounds a lot like you didn't set up your hosteddomains and/or esmtpacceptmailfor and/or locals properly (from the "inside" it works because relaying is allowed)...
