I would also like to have this feature enabled. Is it possible to
plot monthly data, but label quarterly dates on the x-axis
corresponding with every third data point?

Think of a graph that shows a years worth of sales month by month.
The months are on the X axis as names.
You can't hardly put every month name at the bottom of the graph due
to space.
But if you rotate the month name 90 you cn easily fit them all.
