I don't know why you can't make a texture, so I'll go around your questions and say that it's easy enough to generate a lot of parallel lines as needed by using the Move/copy feature. (That is, draw your line once, select the Move tool, tap the alt key, drag the copied line as far as you want from the first one, park it there, tap x and key in the number of copies (lines) you need, tap enter, and watch the lines proliferate.) If you need the lines pattern again, make it a group and copy it. The group can be scaled to lengthen the lines and lines can be copied and moved to make it fit whatever area you need to fill.
I hope someone else will answer your questions, as making textures is a useful skill.

I'm trying to create a texture of horizontal lines. I saved a file from Photoshop as a jpeg and tried to import the file, ticking 'use as texture', but a click box says 'image file invalid!'. This happens when I try to import the image as 'use as image' too.
A) is there an easier way to create horizontal lines on a face as a texture [there is too much face to cover by drawing line after line by hand]
B) is there a ready made texture I could use
C) am I going the right way about creating a texture
D) why is my file invalid? I called it 'brick' so no invalid characters.
Thanks for any suggestions
