CGM Open Members,

This is to fill you in on another initiative that we are pursuing. You may have noticed the item in Dave's announcement of the Vancouver TC meeting, about a "vendor presentation" at Orlando.

There is a category at Orlando called "Vendor Offering" (see the link below). It is for showcasing new vendor products. We had the idea to do a WebCGM product mini-demo, based around the WebCGM test suite (new release: end September), plus some other, more real-world files.

Initial solicitation of CGMO vendors indicates 2 are interested at the "probably" level and another at the "possibly" level (this is my own assessment and guess-timate).

As you can see below, Lauren Wood (XML 2001 Chair) is very positive on the idea. Our deadline for firming up a proposal is 1st October. By then, we will need (I think) to have the participants identified and the proposal submitted. We can thrash out the details -- specific test/demo files and scenarios -- in the 10 weeks thereafter until the Orlando happens. Vancouver would be useful to jump start this.

I think this is a good opportunity for some excellent exposure (collectively and individually), and ought to be fun as well.

Regards, Lofton.

p.s. I was a little unclear in the (below) statement "2-3 vendors ... stable implementations". To be accurate, I should have appended "...and are interested to showcase together." Because there are more than 2-3 WebCGM implementations.

Hi Lauren, We expect that 2-3 CGM Open vendors will have pretty stable implementations of WebCGM 1.0 Second Release (soon to be posted). We will also have a pretty good initial test suite. We (CGM Open/OASIS) have interest in showcasing the 2-3 together, in a sort of interoperability mini-demo. It looked as if this might reasonably fall under the "Vendor Offering" category, http://www.gca.org/attend/2001_conferences/xml_2001/vendor.htm

Sounds ideal to me. Submit it, please, using the standard system and choosing "vendor presentation". Lots of brownie points for standards and interoperability!
