i was wondering if i could get some answers to a question thats been naging me for a while. i am about to build a 2 processor freebsd host. it is a supermicro motherbard some 4 or 5 years old in design and a pair of intel pentium pro (180 mhz kind) that i've gotten from a couple of old p6 hosts that were "retired" because they could not keep up the pace with the new microsoft windows incarnation, hence i got the leftovers.

my question is will smp mmode wotk with similar but not identical type microprocessors --- in this case pentium pro, 180 mhz, same l2 cache same every thing i think but .. perhaps different step ??? i remember that the step had to be the same or freebsd would really bomb badly.

Different steppings are usually okay. I ran a dual p6 system for a couple of years with multiple CPUs at different times, all different steppings.
