The safe way is to create the new depot, integrate everything from the old depot to the new depot and then delete everything in the old depot (delete, not obliterate).
This can also be done seamlessly without worrying about integration history with depot surgery. This one in particular will require a little more than just the standard search and replace, so I emphasize more than usual that you should work with support if you want this option.
