A bit of a clarification (after chatting with Patrick):

Patrick Bennett wrote:

There were no database changes in 2004.2, so if you're running 2003.2 already, there is nothing to prevent you from going back to an earlier release if there are problems with the beta.

There are two types of database upgrades:

1. upgrades performed during p4d -xu

2. upgrades performed on-the-fly

While it is true that when upgrading from 2003.2 to 2004.2 there are no upgrades performed during p4d -xu, there are indeed upgrades that are performed on-the-fly. Therefore, it is _not_ possible to downgrade from 2004.2 to 2003.2. The "DOWNGRADING AFTER AN UPGRADE IS NOT POSSIBLE" warning in the 2004.2 release notes does indeed apply to 2004.2.

Regards,

Michael

As a general rule, I'd never put anything Beta into production, no matter what, even if it is from Perforce.

That being said, I run the latest betas of P4V the second they come out, but just on my machine. ;)

Personally, I wouldn't even upgrade the Perforce server until it's been out and used by the early adopters for at least a few weeks. I don't think Perforce has ever had a 'big one' leak out with a commercial release, but because of the lack of downgradeability on the server, I'd want to be sure it was 100% rock solid before upgrading.

Does anyone have any experience with beta releases from Perforce? Would you consider putting a beta release into production?

I believe that 2004.1 was a release of p4v only and that it didn't have a corresponding server side build.

What's the status of 2004.1?

Looking on the Perforce website, it appears as though the current version is 2003.2, snd the current beta version is 2004.2. What what about 2004.1?

Thanx,
