Filtering by the From: header is usually a waste of time. Spambags change the From: header more often that most people change their underwear.

It is usually more beneficial to determine the actual spam sources, and block them directly.

I've still found filtering by From: header to come in useful in certain situations. For example, when I'm on someone's mailing list and they don't provide an opt-out method. Or when something like this happens:

+ 495 Dec 27 Carol Jamison (198K) BUILDING + N 496 Dec 27 Carol Jamison (198K) BUILDING + N 497 Dec 27 Carol Jamison (198K) BUILDING + N 498 Dec 27 Carol Jamison (198K) BUILDING + N 499 Dec 27 Carol Jamison (198K) BUILDING + N 500 Dec 27 Carol Jamison (198K) BUILDING + N 501 Dec 27 Carol Jamison (198K) BUILDING + N 502 Dec 27 Carol Jamison (198K) BUILDING + N 503 Dec 27 Carol Jamison (198K) BUILDING + N 504 Dec 27 Carol Jamison (198K) BUILDING

(This person got some e-mail worm and keeps spamming me.)

That's why I was wondering if there's a nice script that I can drop in ~/.mailfilter that reads from a gdbm database to determine whether to block this From address.
