I can't give a definitive reply, but using some common sense I figured this out:

1. Every now and then Google detects click fraud, and makes corrections. Obviously this happens on content network only. If I recall correctly, this usually only happens within the next 2..3 days. When this is the case, the columns [clicks] and [cost] will change.

2. The cookie for conversions has a life time of 30 days, so when an end-user clicks on an ad, and navigates to the conversion page within 30 days, an update to the conversion of that click will take place (plus the actual conversion column, transactions etc.). When the user reaches the conversion page after 30 days, no updates will take place.

I experienced a few exceptions to the last rule, sometimes I got updates after that period. I blame obscure web browsers with buggy cookie life times, users changing system dates etc. on this one.

I have been noticing that some adwords report data changes slightly retroactively. For example, I ran a keyword report for 7/11 around midday yesterday (7/12) and then again today (7/13) and while most of the data is the same there are a few lines that differ (14 out of 13452 are different). For this particular report I am pulling impressions, clicks, cost and conversions, and the difference, when present, is always in the conversions data.

Looks to me like some data is getting adjusted after the end of the day. I would like to get a definite answer on how long the settlement time is? When (how many hours/days after the end of the reporting day) can I be guaranteed that the data is final. Also are there any differences in settlement times for different elements (e.g., are conversions adjustable for a few days while the rest aren't?)

Apologies if this is in the docs or posted earlier and I have missed it -- please direct me if that is the case.
