Why don't you try Debian/Testing instead of Debian/Stable with backports? It's much more maintainable.

Because Debian/Testing broke my setup *every* time I tried it? Trivial (ahum) things as libc's that don't work properly? Rumours go around that unstable is much more stable than testing. :-)
