Most IMAP clients have the .user.inbox.subfolder.subfolder idea There
is a specific key in mutt to create subfolders on imap servers so it
will follow the convention.

I'd love to see your config. I'm still waiting for someone to show me a
complicated or well populated mutt-imap configuration. I have 3 logins,
with numerous subgroups being used and I can't figure out how to handle
it all with some sort of ease.
Using mutt as an imap client is actually quite nice, and it makes the
namespace problem go away. Since my mail server has very few users, I
don't worry about space and I just store all of my saved email on the
server, my sent mail, my drafts, everything. Its on the server. Its a
nice thing to have, because that way even the webmail interface has
access to all of my data. I recommend it.
