Sure. The immediate need is simply for admin and informational purposes. Say you're doing some troubleshooting a particular client's environment and you want to back up their data file before you go adding noise to it with test cases. It would help to have one-click info on exactly where it lives.

There could be other, future developments which make more interesting use of the path. Suppose you want to access the Gears DB from a Java Web Start app. In a trusted environment, this would allow you to retrieve things from user files and update the Gears DB with them. Or go in the opposite direction and save info from the Gears DB in a local file. In this way you could, for example, develop a hosted word processor with full disk access.
