Meanwhile, what recommendations does anyone have for other methods of making a DVD of Gem output, *not* necessarily involving having Gem itself create a file?

yes, hard to figure out, offers some sources where you could run into problems (memory space, finding good resolution settings/a balance of available space and image quality, so that you can use it for your dvd), it also crashed in the past. but that should not keep you from trying, just don't give up if it does not work in the first time. it is still easier than using pix_write. marius.
