what about birth dates, or city? is it also considered as completely private information? Is there different layers of privacy the containers can set up?

Email isn't a standard field in the OpenSocial API - we expect that most containers will not want to share the email addresses of their users for privacy reasons. You can get an ID number for each Person record, however, which will uniquely identify that user on that specific container.
