You would need Visual C++ or the CygWin distribution in order to compile MySql on Windows.

If you are not skilled in program compilation, you would probably be better off getting one of the binary distributions for windows available at the mysql site.

Hello! I am *really* new here. New in this list, new in mysql, and new in programming :) I want to learn php3 and mysql, so I downloaded them both. But I only download the source files for mysql, because the compiled program is too big. I downloaded this file, mysql-3.23.21-beta-win-src.zip.

But I actually don't know how to compile a program on windows. So I still can't install mysql. I am using windows 98 and OmniHTTPd webserver and php 3.0.16. Anyone can tell me how to compile the source? Do I need Visual C++? How do I use it to compile the source?

Thanks in advance!
