But it doesn't echo the $LOGNAME. maildrop is set to suid root. Since this problem, the mail stays in the queue, and without maildrop it works, but then I get flooded with spam!

I hope that this is not a FAQ, but if yes, please give me a link to the home- page. (I was "googling" for 2 hours)

Try changing your logfile line to:

logfile "$HOME/.maildir/maildrop.log"

I just tried the tilde in my .maildropfilter file and when i send myself a message, i get the "Unable to create log file" error.Using $HOME works for me.
