And yes, 2950-12, 2950-24, 2950T-48-SI and 2950SX-48-SI are *SI-only* and simply *can't* be upgraded to EI, as the ASICs are different. If You want EI - You just buy it.

You mean, if I want EI, I have to buy an EI model from start? I'm not sure about that.

Trust me - the EI image for the 2950 simply wouldn't load on my SI unit.

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/cat2950 still says: c2950-i6q4l2-mz.121-22.EA2.bin C2950 EI AND SI IOS IMAGE

And the -crypto page says: c2950-i6k2l2q4-mz.121-22.EA2.bin C2950 EI AND SI IOS CRYPTO IMAGE

Where do you find different images?

In the archives, I can see some 2955 IOS with different images for EI and SI,
maybe that's what you're trying to run? Or something from back in 2002, around 12.1(6) and 12.0(5)WC2. Who wanna run
that anyway?
