You meant that Courier is limited by 1M users ? That means 1 Million users?

That is quite impressive enough, I think ;)

www.adoir.com are using courier as its full range of Email Server solution where now it has the active user of more than 100K(1 firewall, 1 smtp server, 1 pop3 server, 2 imap server, 1 webmail server, 1 MySQL Server, common shared harddisk arrays)

Courier not only has wide variety of authentication methods including LDAP, MySQL., but also has a easy extended function if you take a look at the source code. Now we are implementing authentication methods based on Oracle 8i, MailDir Structure based on Oracle 8i(MailBody Based on GLOBs). And several module such as maillist, SMS & STLMS(Stable Telephone Lined Message System) Instant Notification, and fee-charging are fully implemented.

I show this example saying, Courier is quite-fit designed for small - middle business and it can be extended to replace MS Exchange.

Anybody has construction idea of how the Oracle 8i-MailDir, please give me some words I am now rewriting the chdir, getting the Maildir Path re-translated to SQLs, and fill-in stdin.

If we can solve this problem. courier can support much much much more users.(Compared with Users of Oracle) Currently, the main problem should be maildir. You know if one user only has 4 folders, 1folder = 4096bytes 1M User 4M folders Occupies 4M*4096 = 16G (Only the SIngle Folder...........Gosh!)

We use courier as a Imap + Pop server solution in our dept., on this issue I can say that Courier IMAP server and POP server are small, fast and have a wide variety of authentication methods including LDAP, MySQL.

1. As a newbie to courier, I am wondering how powerful courier is.

I read many comparison about Sendmail, postfix, exim, qmail,... and I know some features of them. According to these information, I am able to decide to choose which system more suitable to me.

But there is no such information about Courier. Could you please point me some clues?

Anybody here know if courier is in use in the critical environment? Any big site use courier as their email system?

2. Do you think that I should use esmtpd of courier as a SMTP server? Or better I should choose Postfix?
