Hello fellow MTA users!

I am using the courier mta for pop3 and imap successfully. The SSL and authentication appears to work just fine.

Now I want to use the esmtp also an I whant to avoid missuse of my smtp service since I don't have that much bandwith.

When setting up the esmtp without authentication all works fine. But it seams that there is a problem in the authentication part.

Im at a loss! I thought that since th pop and imap authentication works esmtp should to! But no such luck.

What I do is I set the AUTH_REQUIRED=1 temporarily to make sure the authentication procedure is forced. The client reply "ERROR: Authentication required" and fails to deliver the mail. This using a KMail client in KDE/Linux.

There is a esmtpd AND a esmtpd-ssl in my /etc/courier map. How do these relate? Do I have to put all parameters in the esmtpd-ssl variant or only the ones that differ from esmtpd?

Please advice! What do I look for? What is the difference between esmtp and for instance imap authentication.
