I have read that. The contents of my "locals" file look like this:

localhost .mydomain.com mydomain.com

... and according to the documentation, the ".mydomain.com" will cause any domain "a.mydomain.com", "blah.mydomain.com", whatever, to be treated as a local address.

Am I missing something? I don't have a "hosteddomains" file. I shouldn't think I would need one.

If I remove the "defaultdomain" file, everything works fine, with the mildly frustrating exception of the local machine name showing up in the From: addresses of outgoing emails from the webmail app.

Thanks for the help.. - David

However, after creating that (and re-running makealiases, as the docs say), any attempts to send an email to jo@mydomain.com result in a "550 User Unknown" response.

Read the definition of 'locals' in courier(8) man page.

You need to have both mydomain.com and machine.mydomain.com in locals.
