you're right: there are many things that should be cleaned up in the sources.
I've read that Dierk and Denis want to
perform some work over Christmas. No idea if they want to fix this too.

Hi Marc
But I don't understand why you want to get a special version. With the exception of the move from httpunit to htmlunit, the builds should be each time "better" and everything what works with version n should work with version n+1 too.
this is true. the only reason i asked about version numbers is be able to report the version I am using when I submit a problem to the mailing list.
e.g. if i download build.zip I can check buildnumber.txt ( 586 ). (the download page for webtest lists 583 so this is out of synch, but that this is not a major issue can always check buildnumber.txt).
If I mail the mailing list and say 'I have checked out latest source from CVS and I report this problem......' , I have no way of comparing what difference ( if any ) there is between what I have checked out of cvs and built..and downloading build.zip (eg 586). Yes I could use a diff comparison tool to compare the src directories, 'or' I could look at the datestamp on buildnumber.txt in build.zip and compare this to the date I checked out of cvs. For example buildnumber.txt is datestamped 13/12/2004 does this mean 586 was built on this date?.
there is no buildnumber.txt generated if you build from the src. ( unless I'm mistaken? )
also confusing for a newbie is lastbuildnumber.txt as I believe this is now out of date & redundant but this file is included in build.zip when building from the src.
changes.txt in build.zip (586) the last entry in the file dates back to 2002 so I believe this file is also redundant now?
