Subject:[courier-users] Esmtp authentication very very slowActions...

Hi, group,

I just installed Courier 0.31 on RedHat Linux 7.0 with 2 Intel 800MHz processors. Because my users are expected to be from different places and networks, I need to setup esmtp authentication. (This is why I use courier instead of qmail or other programs. )

But the connection time to the esmtp server is very slow - it takes 1-2 minutes from MS Outlook and never work with Netscape messenger. Pop3 is clean and fast.

For Courier, I have authuserdb only now but I tried combinations of authcustom, authuserdb, authcram, and authvchkpw, with or without esmtp-msa. All very slow. Does anyone know why? Please help.

Also, I could not figure out what esmtp-msa and authcustom are for.

Thank you. Yuan
