I'm following the courier0.42.2 installation testing and attempted to run "perftest1" against my test account.

I started courier and authdaemond without any errors in the log, but when I tried to execute the perftest1 (as root), I saw in the terminal window:

I want to use mySQL for authentication but haven't set it up yet. My authdaemond has the unmodified default setup.

<Sam Varschavchik writes> Well, then, the unmodified default setup is going to use MySQL. Since you haven't configured authmysqlrc, everything is going to keel over.

Temporary remove authmysql from authdaemonrc, until such time you decide to use MySQL-based authentication. </Sam>

OK, I'm giving up on mySQL for the moment, and going back to the original install instructions. They say: "configure courier for local account authentication"

Does that mean to use authpwd, authuserdb or something else for authentication?

I tried setting authdaemonrc to use authpwd, but when I ran perftest1 I received a lot of "517 Syntax Error"...probably 5000 of them.
