We are talking about the Debian packaging. For Debian, sendmail must
be located in /usr/sbin, and apparently the packager made sure of that (but
did not fix things in Courier that call sendmail).
Yes, that was my reasoning. It looks like that a recent change to
Courier introduced this problem.
IMHO (as a Debian developer myself, but not responsible for the Courier
packaging) this is a Debian bug and should not have been forwarded
upstream.
My intention was to query for the intention locating sendmail in
/usr/bin.
