I'm not a developer, except for the odd idea. the one that's been on my mind with respect to the google desbar is the following:

Given the fact that the firefox search bar is usefull in so far as one can search different engines from the same bar, I feel that if only the google deskbar was capable of the same functionality, one would be able to enjoy the same feature without having to open up one's internet browser first (before doing the search). Hence, if a plug in like the firefox search bar was created for the google destop then I think it would facilitate direct searches (of say a dictionary, news engines, search engines, and of course the desktop) from the deskbar or what have you. Quicker. More convenient. Not as bulky (as a browser page).

For myself at least, I think I would use the desktop more often if it had this sort of functionality, whereas now I only use it for desktop searches.

Just throwing it out there.
