Newer processors will run hotter when heavily loaded. I have a computer that overheats when I run a different 3D program (I just have not used SU very much to know if it is a similar problem).

Also, I recently had a different computer reboot seemingly at random. It was actually caused by the +12v power supply slowly failing. When the voltage dropped below some level, it caused the motherboard to reset. I think heat was affecting the power supply.

Therefore it is possible that there is a mechanical problem. Of course, display issues are usually driver issues, but not always.

George,

Have you any other programs that really tax the graphics system? If so, have you tried taxing the system with another program, to see if it reboots?

The only time I can recall reading about comparable symtoms, it was a heat problem (laptop fan not working.)

I now note that you haven't described your system (age, hardware, both graphics and cpu.) I did note that you're using WinXP/SP2. You should note that SketchUp is not guaranteed to run on all computers (some are just not up to the task): http://sketchup.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=36208 (It's the "3D class Video Card with 512MB..." clause that hits many users.)
