I am not in a position to go delve into an explanation of why the source code of the native layers is not available but I can say that we are seriously looking into providing a Mac OS X build although I cannot give a schedule as yet. I can only request your patience.

Thanks,

Brian

Hi

I still argue that if we were to get access to the source code of the native codecs, it would be not too difficult for one of us to compile and test them on the Mac and contribute them back to the project. I.e., we don't need Apple for this.

I keep asking for the native codec source code, but it is still not forthcoming.

The JPEG 2000 codec is Jasper is it not, so why is that a problem ?

Is JPEG-LS the UBC version of the HP implementation ? Again, if so, why is that a problem.

Is the > 8 bit JPEG and lossless JPEG implementation based on IJG ? Cornell ? PVRG ? Or is it something else ? I don't recall or may never have known.

All of these are known quantities and readily available in source; on the other hand if some of the codecs from mediaLib are used that there may be reluctance ... but if so, can they be swapped out, or just some subset of the native codecs made available ?

I.e., we could do this in steps rather than all the native codecs at once, perhaps.

So Mac support in the Sun-provided jnlp has my vote, whatever mechanism is used to do it!

My vote too.

To quote the classic AOL user: Me too! :)

For the time being - I'd be happy to have access to the non-accellerated libs. Not for other reason - but looks like Apple's got other priorities and JAI/ImageIO is not one of them.

The other painful thing is that even if they decide to update to some version of ImageIO, it is very likely that it'll stay at that version for @PANTHEON knows how long.

So, Brian, if you manage to get through and put OSX support in, we'll most likely be in serious debt to you. :)

Cheers and thanks
